The Community Sustainable Agriculture and Healthy Environment (CSHEP) is a grassroots Kenyan initiative empowering small-scale farmers through organic farming, agroecology, and environmental stewardship. With a strong focus on women and youth, the organization equips communities with practical skills in organic farming, bio-intensive gardening, and soil conservation, contributing to improved food security, nutrition, and household incomes.

CSHEP adopts an integrated, community-centred approach that combines farmer exchange visits, cooperative-based learning, and access to organic markets, alongside value addition initiatives that enhance the economic potential of farm produce. Bronze Warrior: Lightup Impact; redefining grassroots and community impact leadership across East Africa—challenging the reality that most youth-led initiatives struggle to survive—by nurturing a resilient ecosystem that empowers local changemakers to sustain, collaborate, and scale their impact.

Through its ecosystem-building approach, Lightup Impact connects grassroots leaders to donors, partners, and a wide range of opportunity pathways. The organization has supported more than 100 youth-led initiatives across the region, helping to strengthen their visibility, credibility, and access to resources. It has also convened over 250 youth leaders and 300 stakeholders through its Impact Days Conferences—platforms designed to foster collaboration, shared learning, and collective action.

This work is anchored in driving meaningful change on gender justice, climate action, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. By bringing together diverse actors and amplifying youth-led solutions, Lightup Impact is helping shape a more connected and action-oriented impact ecosystem.

COPICAD CBO is a grassroots organization advancing people-centred development in Nyandarua and Laikipia by linking environmental restoration with sustainable livelihoods.

Through its inclusive approach, the organization has supported over 2,800 households with initiatives such as agroforestry, beekeeping, apple farming, and tree nurseries—creating green jobs and strengthening resilient local economies. Women, youth, and persons with disabilities are positioned as leaders within these efforts, driving impact from within their communities.

Beyond livelihoods, COPICAD CBO plays a critical role in strengthening local governance systems. It empowers Ward Climate Change Committees and supports Community Forest Associations and Water Resource User Associations, promoting transparency, equity, and sustainable natural resource management. CFK Africa is a community-driven organization that has spent over 24 years empowering youth in urban informal settlements—beginning in Kibera—through a participatory development model that now reaches more than 200,000 people annually.

Guided by the principle “Nothing about us without us,” the organization places communities at the center of its work, ensuring that solutions are co-created through advisory boards, feedback forums, and strong local partnerships.

A defining strength of CFK Africa is its commitment to local leadership. With 80% of its staff drawn from the communities it serves, the organization fosters trust, relevance, and sustainability. This approach is exemplified by CEO Jeffrey Okoro’s journey from a youth leader in Kibera to leading the organization—reflecting a deliberate investment in nurturing leadership from within. In her leadership role with the Power for the People Africa (PFP) Kenya chapter, Caren champions women-focused initiatives that directly respond to everyday challenges faced by girls and women. CFK Africa is a community-driven organization that empowers girls and young women in informal settlements to realize their full potential, live safely, and lead change within their communities. With over 20 years of impact, the organization reaches more than 8,000 adolescent girls and young women annually, providing safe spaces for sexual and reproductive health education, psychosocial support, and leadership development.

Through targeted girls’ empowerment programs, CFK Africa addresses critical challenges such as gender-based violence, teenage pregnancy, and limited access to education and healthcare. Its Funzo Project specifically supports young mothers to return to school or pursue vocational training, helping them rebuild pathways to opportunity and independence. Central to its approach is community co-creation, where girls actively identify the challenges they face and design solutions that are relevant and sustainable.

CFK Africa also employs innovative, community-based models such as compound-to-compound policing, engaging landlords and landladies as first responders, and applying public health surveillance principles to strengthen GBV prevention and referral systems.

Akili Dada is a leading organization advancing girls’ education and leadership across Kenya and Africa, with over a decade of impact supporting thousands of girls and young women. Through a proven model that combines scholarships, mentorship, and leadership development, the organization nurtures confident, socially conscious changemakers equipped to thrive and lead.

At the heart of its approach is the Stawisha Dada Fellowship, which provides holistic support, including mentorship, leadership training, and psychosocial care, alongside full education support from secondary school through university. Gold Warrior: UWEP-Africa: Empowering Women, Transforming Communities.

UWEP–Africa is a women-led initiative dedicated to strengthening women’s agency through confidence-building, leadership development, and enhanced decision-making power. Operating across Nairobi, Bungoma, and Siaya, the organization has empowered over 4,200 women, fostering economic resilience through 232 table banking groups and mobilizing more than KES 170 million in savings and internal lending.

Its impact is reflected in both economic and social outcomes: 72% of members report improved financial independence, while 63% actively influence household financial decisions. Women supported through the program run diverse enterprises, including tailoring, food vending, poultry, and retail, while over 3,000 individuals have been reached through health access and GBV prevention initiatives. Additionally, 68% of participants demonstrate increased awareness of their rights.

UWEP–Africa places strong emphasis on leadership and governance, with over 1,100 women trained in leadership and financial management—nearly half taking on leadership roles for the first time. Built on a model of fully women-led, peer-governed groups, the initiative is reinforced by structured systems such as quarterly leadership forums, strong governance practices, regular audits, and succession planning, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.

As the leader of the Lean In Network – Women in HR Kenya, Dorcas convenes growth circles, mentorship sessions, and leadership dialogues that equip women with practical tools and global insights for professional advancement. She facilitates training in emotional intelligence, managerial readiness, and career resilience, helping women build the confidence and capability needed to navigate and excel in leadership roles.

Sienna Dutkowski is a visionary founder and leader transforming the security industry through Lady Askari, an initiative breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field. Her work is reshaping opportunities for women by creating pathways into high-level security roles and advancing gender equality within the profession.

Through Lady Askari, she has built structured mentorship and training pipelines that have placed countless women into meaningful careers in security. Her scalable frameworks support both professional growth and systemic change, ensuring that more women can access and succeed in spaces where they have historically been underrepresented.

She has played a key role in elevating the voices of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Kilifi County, championing their representation in leadership and decision-making spaces. Her sustained advocacy contributed to the appointment of the County PWD Board Chairperson after more than two years of vacancy, while strengthening regional discourse on disability rights, access, and inclusion.

A powerful media voice, Jemimah leverages radio as a platform for awareness and transformation. As the host of “Amka na Rafiki,” reaching over one million listeners, she drives dialogue on disability inclusion, human rights, and community development. She also produces “Kidonge Uchungu,” a program that confronts stigma and sheds light on systemic barriers faced by persons with disabilities.

Beyond media, Jemimah collaborates with organizations such as Women Challenged to Challenge, alongside county governments and local institutions, to advance inclusive policies and promote accessible service delivery. To date, 60 women have been trained to produce KEBS-certified reusable sanitary towels under the Arise Reusable Pads social enterprise.

PFP Africa Trust has expanded its reach by partnering with 356 community health promoters across Homa Bay, Narok, and Kajiado Counties — regions with high rates of gender-based violence, teen pregnancy, and new HIV infections. These promoters receive training and products to sell in their communities, earning commissions while serving as ambassadors for menstrual health and dignity.

Through an innovative profit-sharing model that reinvests 50% of proceeds to train new cohorts — including men — in entrepreneurship and sustainable skills, PFP Africa Trust has distributed 3,500 reusable pads, enabling 3,500 girls and women to manage menstruation with confidence, stay in school, and pursue their ambitions.
